Sam Smith Park Seasonal Farmer's Market Launches in South Etobicoke

At the very south end of Kipling Ave. in the Toronto neighbourhood of South Etobicoke is the Lake Ontario waterfront gem of a park, Sam Smith Park.

I have written about Sam Smith Park's Whimbrel Point before, but today we are visiting the new seasonal farmer's market that is being held there every Saturday (rain or shine) until October 31st between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The market had some live entertainment, booths selling health and beauty products, a variety of food and bread booths, an organic wine booth and, of course, some produce booths.

Two well established local artisan bakeries Tatsu's Bread and More Than Pies were represented with an assortment of their breads, buns and baked goodies.

The market is right near the end of Colonel Samuel Smith Park Dr. (as Kipling is known south of Lake Shore Blvd.) right by the seasonal outdoor skating trail (which, obviously, is not operating at this time of year.)

Full directions and some information about the park, one of Toronto's little known gems, can be found after some pictures of the market.

You can find more information about the market and vendors at samsmithmarket.ca

Organic Wine!

I picked some Herbs de Provence Goat Cheese!

Sam Smith Park is on the 501 Queen St. streetcar line. You get off at the Kipling stop and walk a very short walk south. From downtown you can expect an off-peak ride of about 45 minutes to an hour to get to Kipling.

Alternately you can take the subway to Kipling station and the 44 Kipling South bus to the park. Simply stay on the bus to the very end of its route. You will get off the bus right at the northern end of the first trail pictured!

If you are driving you exit at the Kipling exit of the Gardiner Expressway and go south.

For more information on the park and the winter skate trail see the City of Toronto website.

You can also learn more about the history of and efforts to preserve the park at the Friends of Sam Smith Park blog.

After visiting the market consider a trip to Sam Smith Park's magical Whimbrel Point!
