Che was addressing a large audience at an event celebrating the new Soviet - Cuban friendship after the revolution. The House of Unions was run by the Moscow Council of Trade Unions in the Soviet era.

A remarkable photo from the 22nd Congress of the CPSU in Moscow, 1961. 

Codovilla was one of the founders of the Communist Party of Argentina in 1918. He was in Spain during the civil war and died in exile in Moscow in 1970. 

Stasova was a legendary revolutionary who joined the Bolsheviks right at the start in 1903. She became a member of the party's Central Committee prior to the revolution in 1917 and served in a variety of positions after it. When she died in 1966 (at age 93) she was the last surviving member of the party's Central Committee from when the revolution triumphed.

Ho Chi Minh needs no introduction.

Hero City of Moscow, 1968 -- 14 Postcard Images

Released in 1968 this collection of 14 images was dedicated to the Hero City of Moscow, capital of the Soviet Union.

In 1965, in honour of the 20th anniversary of the victory. the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR designated Leningrad, Volgograd (Stalingrad), Kiev, Sevastopol, Odessa, and Moscow as Hero Cities for the extraordinary courage, resilience and endurance of their citizens resisting against the Nazis. Other cities and the fortress at Brest-Litovsk were added later.

We looked at these cities in the posts Second World War Hero Cities of the USSR w. photos and text Part I and Part II. 

While there is actually little about the war in these photos, there are terrific shots of the university, bridges, the Bolshoi, the largest toy store in the USSR, the Palace of Congresses and other interesting landmarks.

The packet was aimed at a domestic audience and was published only in Russian. I have translated the card descriptions.

Soviet Moscow 1985 - 18 Streetscapes and Postcards

Published in 1985 this packet of 18 colourful postcards show a variety of sights around Moscow during the Soviet period. We have looked at many Soviet vintage photos before, of course, as well as some of Moscow.

These ones are unusually bright and vivid and have a large number of streetscapes which I always find the most interesting.

The picture of Kalinin Prospekt at night is spectacular, while the Marx Prospekt, Komsomol Square, Kalinin Bridge and the shot of the RSFSR Council of Ministers and CMEA buildings are all standouts.

Amílcar Cabral's speech at the 24th Congress of the CPSU, 1971

The immortal and unique genius of Lenin and his teachings are a powerful force that supports all true fighters against imperialism, providing them with an inexhaustible source of inspiration - Amílcar Cabral,  Bissau-Guinean and Cape Verdean revolutionary, theoretician and independence leader. From his speech at the 24th Congress of the CPSU held in Moscow in March and April, 1971. He was assassinated in January, 1973, only eight months before Guinea-Bissau became independent.
